Are VVS Diamonds Real

In your quest for a perfect diamond, you must have come across the term VVS diamond, and you are probably wondering what that means. Before digging deep into the meaning, you need to note that different diamonds are valued and graded depending on various factors such as color, clarity, carat, and cut.

What are VVS Diamonds?

First things first, are VVS diamonds real? Yes! VVS diamonds are natural and valuable. Meanwhile, VVS is a clarity grade that means “very very slightly included.” This type of diamond appears flawless, although it contains some microscopic defects. The imperfections affect the overall value of the diamond, but VVS diamond still has a high market value. Compared to other flawless grades of diamonds, VVS diamonds are rated second.

What is Diamond Clarity?

Since diamond formation requires tremendous heat and pressure, tiny crystals are sometimes trapped in the stone during the process. The crystals form imperfections in the diamonds’ structure, making it hard to find a flawless diamond.

When dictating the clarity of a diamond, jewelers must use 10x magnification to determine the quantity, color, position, and size of the crystals. They then use the clarity chart to classify the stones into different categories. Diamonds graded VVS1 or VVS2 have great clarity.

What is the Difference Between VVS1 and VVS2?

VVS diamonds are divided into two categories:

  • VVS1 – These diamonds have imperfections on the pavilion or the bottom half of the stone, making it unnoticeable.
  • VVS2 – These types have flaws on the crown or upper half of the diamond, but it is still hard to spot.

VVS1 is more expensive than VVS2, but they both appear invisible.
